Just the Facts
(Along with a Little Gossip and a Few Mistakes)
Camping in Cades Cove
Cades Cove Campground
Frontcountry Camping and Group Camping
The following applies to camping in the Frontcountry Campground and Group Campground.
Over two million annual visitors can’t be wrong. They continue to come to the Cove year after year to enjoy the scenery. The Cove is blanketed in beautiful wildflowers in the spring, swallowed up in peace and tranquility in the summer, filled with vivid colors in the fall, and covered with snow in the winter, the scenery at Cades Cove never disappoints. It is not just the scenery that keeps drawing them back; it is the hiking, biking, wildlife sighting, and driving the loop. It is the sheer beauty of the Cove. Oh, did I mention the history?
The campground is open year-round providing the necessities, flush toilets, and drinking water. During peak season (May - October) a camp store provides campers and other visitors with additional necessities as well as bike rentals. There are also events in the amphitheater, and Bicycle Only Days on the loop road providing visitors with a fun and unique experience.
One of the greatest advantages of camping in the Cove, not counting the solitude and beauty, is time. Most places outside the Cove take over an hour of driving time. Even Townsend is over thirty minutes away. But, the best scenario is Laural Creek Road closed, and the loop road open with light snow throughout the Cove. There you are in the Cove with a camera and snow on the ground.
